Moments that matter
PhotoBox is proud to sponsor the Renaissance Photography Prize 2009, a charity dedicated to helping young people with Breast Cancer. This year’s overall theme is Moments That Matter, with PhotoBox sponsoring the ‘Moments of Emotion’ category, the winner of which is shown right. Congratulations go to all the winners. This year’s entries have been really inspiring. Celebrity judges Martin Parr, Eamonn McCabe, Charlie Waite and Brigette Lardinois have certainly had their work cut out. See all the winning entries and details on how you can do your bit for the Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care on the Renaissance website.

Here are a few of our favourite things!
© Alistair Scott
Alistair Scott’s newly launched book ‘The Greatest Photography Tips in the World’ is a title with a lot to live up to. Whether it offers the greatest tips in the world we’ll let you decide. It certainly does give you plenty of great little tricks to try, from focusing and exposure advice to adding a wow factor. This little book is ideal for anyone interested in improving their photography skills and all for less than a tenner.

Tomy’s Forget-Me-Not album (£22.99) is ideal for even the youngest photo fans. Instead of letting your little ones get their sticky fingers on your prized photo book, give them their very own child-friendly picture book to play with. This great little gift also gives you the option to record messages, which get played back when you turn each page. It’s ideal for filling with your favourite family photos and fun messages, making it a wonderful way to get your baby to smile.

The Fresh M.I.L.K (Moments of Intimacy, Laughter and Kinship) photography competition has been so popular that the deadline had been extended to 28th February. The organisers are looking for 150 winning images to be published in their latest book entitled Fresh M.I.L.K: Friends, Families, Lovers & Laughter, which is due out this autumn. Send them your favourite shots for a chance to win a serious cash prize and be part of this very special project.

With our insider’s guide to looking great on camera, you’ll soon love the way you look in photos and have others happy to pose for you too.
Go on admit it - we’ve all admired how celebrities master the art of posing for the paparazzi. So next time you’re flicking through a newspaper or glossy magazine, take a peep at some of their poses so you can copy them. Equally educational are those less than perfect pictures when they’re caught off guard!
With formal portraits it’s worth taking a little time and trouble to get the right pose, as this will make for a more professional result. A good photographer learns how to accentuate your best bits and disguise the less favourable areas. With reportage photography there’s no emphasis on posing, so it’s important to take plenty of pictures to ensure you get some flattering ones.

1. Feeling reflective
Try building up a series of self-portraits using reflective surfaces whenever you see them.
2. Light ideas
Experiment with different light sources such as candlelight, firelight, tungsten light to give a different feel to your photos.
3. Impressive patterns
A telephoto lens can help accentuate repeating patterns and it compresses what it sees giving greater impact to the pattern.
I just wanted to say as with all my other items the small diary is fantastic. It’s going to make
