Here are a few of our favourite things!
©Le Petit Balcon dance hall by Robert Doisneau
The work of prolific French photographer Robert Doisneau is currently on show at the Side Gallery in Newcastle. Best known for his famous kiss photo on the streets of Paris, this exhibition shows he was not only master of classic street photography but also had a keen eye for capturing amusing and ironic moments. This one’s definitely well worth a visit.
David Busch’s Photo Gear Pro Secrets by David Busch
Swot up on what the pros already know and you’ll see an instant improvement in your pictures. David Busch’s recently launched book, Photo Gear Pro Secrets, has plenty of sound advice from an expert who certainly knows his stuff. This is the perfect book for anyone looking to splash out on expensive photo equipment without making expensive mistakes, as David shows you what’s worth the money and what’s not.
Diane Arbus is generally considered one of the most influential photographers of the twentieth century. A trip to the Timothy Taylor Gallery to see their Diane Arbus exhibition is therefore a tempting offer, giving you the chance to make up your own mind up about her work. The exhibition is an excellent demonstration of the variety of her photography and original approach to portraiture. Exhibition ends 27th June.
Instead of post-wedding trash the dress photo shoots which have become popular, photographer Damien Lovegrove has decided to host a Cherish the Dress workshop instead. It’s an ideal opportunity to learn about the technical aspects of fashion photography and get some fantastic shots for your portfolio as they’ll be models and a make up artist on hand. Next events are 12th June and 20th July.

Leading ladies
These tough credit crunch times have left me craving some glitz and glamour, so for this month’s editor’s choice I’m going for the Audrey and Marilyn exhibition at London’s Proud Central. You’ll see both wonderfully familiar and iconic shots alongside some never seen before photos of these two leading ladies. All the photos are shot by the late Sam Shaw and are a great showcase of his talent. To enjoy this attractive taste of Hollywood, get along to the galley before 5th July.

You see a stunning landscape, one that really blows you away. You're really excited at seeing it in print, only to discover you've failed to capture the magic. Sound familiar? If so, find out where you've been going wrong.
Good lighting is everything in photography. A scene that looks nothing on a dreary day can be transformed by a little sunshine. Revisit favourite locations to see how they look depending on the season and time of day. Early morning and late afternoon light are always the most flattering. Getting up early to witness a cold misty morning, or dew sparkling on a wet lawn, will make all the difference.

Magical monochrome
Black & white images are great for disguising clashing colours and focusing your attention on the mood of the picture instead.
Fish eye fun
Investing is a specialist fish eye lens for your digital SLR, which gives an interesting distortion to your images, is an easy way to add more creativity to your shots.
Eyes right
When shooting portraits always make sure you focus on the eyes as they are the most important part of the picture to get right.
