Advertising and celebrity photographer Adam Lawrence has been shooting professionally for 15 years. When asked how to describe the photographs he takes Adam's response is simply, 'People!' He explains, 'A lot of commercial photographers like to find their 'niche', be it fashion, weddings, cars etc. I take joy in shooting all these and more, the common theme being the characters that animate the shots.'

"Adam's high profile and varied workload is exactly what many aspiring photographers dream of. "

Adam's built up a fantastic reputation for memorable portrait shots so now he's often asked to photograph famous faces. Check out his website and you'll see he's photographed many a celebrity including David Walliams and Matt Lucas, to Chris Moyles and Gail Porter. He recently photographed newsreader Fiona Bruce on the set of the west end musical "Chicago" for Children in Need.

The following week he was shooting Daley Thompson for an advertising campaign, followed by model shots to illustrate a healthy eating book. Adam's high profile and varied workload is exactly what many aspiring photographers dream of. For anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps he advises, 'When photographing people, it is really important to have a rapport with them. Depending on the mood of the photographs you are trying to achieve, make sure that your subjects are given the same mindset as yourself.'

Photography tips

1. Learn to anticipate

When photographing an event learn to anticipate what is going to happen next so you can prepare your camera settings and attempt to be in the right place at the right time.

2. Follow the action

Experiment capturing action shots by panning the camera and following the action, the aim is to your main subject in sharp focus but blur the background to emphasis the movement. Slowing your shutterspeed down will help achieve the desired effect.

3. Fish eye fun

Investing is a specialist fish eye lens for your digital SLR, which gives an interesting distortion to your images, is an easy way to add more creativity to your shots.
