COOKING HELPS BRITAIN SHAKE OFF STIFF UPPER LIP IMAGE

New create your own cook book lets food lovers do it their way

In response to the change in UK cooking traditions, Europe’s leader in personal publishing has today launched a photo cook book to be created by individuals and self published.

From Fanny Craddock in the early 1970s to Sophie’s Dahl’s latest cookery venture, the British love affair with cookery is stronger than ever, yet the way we interact with food has changed dramatically.

Gone are the days of Delia’s stiff upper lip and careful instructions on everything, even boiling an egg, in favour of Jaime Oliver’s freestyle mockney and Keith Floyd’s cult travel stories. Cookery is now interactive, built on life experiences, travels and sharing stories, tips and ideas.

But what if you want to collate all your ideas, hand me downs and favourites into your own personal dream cook book or series? PhotoBox’s self created cook book to the rescue!

Scan in recipes your Gran has written; add travel photos and type in captions as reminders of your favorite foods and newly discovered ingredients – or why not make a book series on your favourite foods from across the world? PhotoBox’s easy to create book lets food lovers pick and mix favourite recipes across 26 to 100 pages, adding in traditional family recipes; dishes from favourite TV shows or chefs, ideas from internet food forums or exotic sensations discovered whilst abroad. With colourful modern designs and suggested chapter headings – from starters to mains to desserts – it’s easy to organise and forever savour and keep safe best loved recipes.

Chefs, mums and culinary whizzes can add their own special touch by combining a free food inspired image library with their own best loved photos – be it travel shots, family get togethers, birthdays, dinner parties or picnics. Choose from two professional photo libraries; vibrant fruit and veg or traditional earthy ingredients and dishes, making the cook book look as professional as if it had been bought off the shelf.

Customise the book further with stylish backgrounds to start each chapter, coloured recipe backdrops featuring cooking utensil silhouettes, plus five covers to choose from. And to help the first time designer and ensure they don’t miss anything essential, PhotoBox has included suggested page layouts and text – which can be deleted – mapping out each page with the dish’s name, ingredients, cooking instructions, time and tips.

As travel and food become more hand in hand, Brits become more infatuated with a particular ingredient such as pasta, or a style of cooking or country. People can now easily publish their own cook book series on a best loved topic. Marry holiday photos together with written captions describing special memories of rich smells, newly discovered ingredients and inspiring tips and advice from locals on how to make this authentic dish on returning home.

This ability to create a truly customised personal cook book also caters for those with specific food needs or allergies. It acts as fun, open and educational way in which to discuss food. Parents and partners alike can now cater for diabetics for example, sourcing recipes online and through forums and collecting them in one useful book. For those looking to manage particular food groups, this is a simple way to create an ultimate guide to suit your life and diet. From vegetarians to vegans, from low GI to gluten or diary free, take all your torn out recipe pages and quickly scribbled notes and put them into your own cookery bible dedicated to you.

Mark Chapman, MD at PhotoBox commented: “Cooking makes up such a huge part of our lives. It’s one of life’s genuine pleasures and always a great excuse to get together – whether that’s over the family dinner table or catching up with friends. We wanted to really bring these feelings to life with our photo cook book.”

“Our favourite foods and tastes change throughout our lives and we hope these books will take on a life of their own, showcasing a personal journey. Whether you’re using the book every day as an extra pair of hands, or keeping it as a pristine and revered family heirloom, it’s a great way to create your own personal treasure trove of memories to share and enjoy for years to come.”
